Awhile ago I wrote about Lawrence King's murder. In short, Brandon McInerney, a white supremacist, bullied teenager Lawrence King for years because King was gay. Then King started coming to school wearing a dress and "acting feminine" in part to express himself the way he wanted and in part to get back at McInerney and his friends for the years of bullying.
McInerney brought a gun to school and shot King in the head. He got charged with first degree murder with a hate crimes enhancement, and the jury deadlocked, after weeks of testimony and media coverage blaming the victim and sympathizing with McInerney on the basis that King was "parading around" in "womens' clothing" and being sexually aggressive. The media even called it "sexual harassment" a few times.
Now, McInerney will be tried again. The hate crimes charge is being dropped completely, but he will still be charged as an adult with first degree murder. As much as I'd like to discuss that, I'd rather discuss this:
